The assignment originates in the government's cultural volunteering strategy "Room for participation", where cultural volunteering is established as a separate policy field in the meeting between volunteering and culture. In this study, we will study the collaboration with the aim of identifying factors that 1) affect the collaboration in general, 2) contribute to the professional quality of the service and 3) influence access to cultural activities for children and young people from different social groups.
There are four main research questions in the project:
- What collaborative models exist between cultural volunteering and municipal cultural activities?
- How are the collaborations between the municipal cultural schools and cultural volunteering funded?
- What kind of models for cooperation between the actors exist to reach as many children and young people as possible, especially from underrepresented groups, and to get more people to participate in local cultural activities?
- How does the interaction between cultural volunteers and professional actors take place?
We study the collaboration both from the perspective of the municipal cultural schools and the voluntary cultural life. Our analyzes are based on both qualitative and quantitative methods. We have a three-part empirical strategy:
- Quantitative survey to all the country's municipal cultural schools
- Quantitative surveys of the most central voluntary cultural actors
- Qualitative in-depth analyzes of the interaction with volunteers among strategically selected culture schools
The findings from the study will be presented in a report that will be published in the spring semester 2025.
