Director of CORE – Centre for Research on Gender Equality Research at the Institute for Social Research
Mari Teigen is Research Professor and director of CORE – the Centre for Research on Gender Equality. Her research centers around how national and international trends interact and influence the development of gender equality and gender relations. A central theme is changes in attitudes towards gender equality, and in particular to understand and explain tendencies of attitude polarization among younger women and men.
Another research area is the design and implementation of equality policies, including how the strengthened activity and reporting obligations in the Equality and Anti‑Discrimination Act work in practice. The study of gender quota policies has been a long-lasting interest, especially how quota debates reflect key normative positions about what is fair, reasonable and socially beneficial. Interactions between expertise and politics is a recurring thread, and a newer focus is the role and influence of emerging commercial knowledge providers.
Teigen has experience as editor in chief and editor of The Norwegian Journal of Gender Research, Nordic Journal of Working-Life Studies, Comparative Social Research. She is chair of the advisory board of Kilden Gender Research and a board member of Center for Welfare and Labour Research at Oslo Metropolitan University.
