The study is conducted among upper secondary school students in three different municipalities and combines qualitative interviews with a quantitative survey experiment. This two‑part approach provides both an in‑depth understanding of the decision‑making process itself and insight into the effects of different factors on educational preferences.
The project explores how young people experience the process of making choices, which sources of information they use, and the role played by family, friends, and guidance and counselling services.
The project also analyses the factors that affect young people’s educational choices. For example, it examines what young people perceive as important when making their choices, what motivates their decisions, and how they weigh factors such as the labour market, salary, and place of study against one another in the decision‑making process.
A central research question concerns how decision-making experiences, and the factors influencing those choices, vary across different geographical contexts.
