Economist researching labor markets and family economics
Marte Strøm is a Research Professor at Institute for Social Research and holds a PhD in Economics from University of Oslo (2012).
Strøm’s research focuses on labor economics and family economics, particularly alternative forms of employment, such as temporary contracts and agency work. She also studies gender differences in education and labor markets, as well as the relationship between work, inequality, and fertility. Her research often combines administrative register data with empirical methods to examine how institutions and public policies affect workers and families.
Strøm leads several research projects, including Temp Agency Work: Worker Welfare, Organization and Efficiency (TEMPO) and EU labor immigration and the organization of work (IMMORG), funded by the Research Council of Norway. She has also led several commissioned projects on alternative forms of employment for the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion and the social partners in working life. From 2026, she serves as Editor of Nordic Economic Policy Review.
