Tora Kjærnes Knutsen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Social Research (ISF) and holds a PhD in economics from the University of Oslo (2022). Her research focuses on education and the labour market. She works quantitatively with register data, with an emphasis on identifying causal relationships.
Knutsen previously conducted research on higher education at the Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education (NIFU), including the effects of the geographical location of higher education institutions, grade trends in higher education, and programme structure in upper secondary school.
At ISF, she studies how the importance of skills in the labour market has changed over time, in a project linking data from the second cycle of the OECD's Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) to register data.
