Kathinka Fossum Evertsen

Sociologist researching politics of gender, climate change and nature

Kathinka Fossum Evertsen holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Nord University and a master’s degree in human rights and humanitarian action from SciencesPo. She has been a visiting researcher at the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) in Dhaka and at the Centre for Gender and Disaster at University College London (UCL).

Evertsen is interested in the production of nature and how climate aid, gender, human mobilities and dispossession are produced in relation to this nature. Current work includes how climate change adaptation programs interact with gendered processes of dispossession in the Bengal Delta, violent extractivist practices in India and Europe, and the emergence of Norwegian climate aid.

In her work, Evertsen draws on political ecology, critical development studies, feminist and postcolonial studies. Geographically, her focus is on South Asia and Europe.

She is an associate editor for the Journal of South Asian Development (JSAD).
