What Core questions are the implications of increased immigration for the Norwegian labour market? Do immigrants harm--or do they improve--the employment prospects of natives? The project contains four broad and interrelated research questions:
1. Do immigrants lower the wage and/or increase the unemployment risk of (seemingly competing) similar native workers?
2. To what extent does immigration increase wages and reduce unemployment risk of non similar native workers?
3. What are the implications of higher immigration for employment and mobility among natives?
4. To what extent does immigration “grease the wheels of the economy”,
Data resources
The main data set we plan to use is established by merging a series of public administrative registers, containing information about individuals and their employers, on the basis of these numbers.
From these merged registers, which are managed by Statistics Norway, it is possible to observe the individual labour market histories of all individuals with a legal residence permit in Norway. That is, we may follow individuals over time through periods inside and outside the labour market and through periods of unemployment and employment.

The project is organised by the Institute for Social Research (ISF) in close cooperation with The Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research. The participants from ISF are Marianne Røed and Pål Schøne. The participants from Frisch Centre are Bernt Bratsberg and Oddbjørn Raaum. The project takes place during the period 2006-2009
