Survey of food distribution by voluntary organizations and other relevant actors

Project period March 2023–October 2023
Project nr. 10742
Project leader Mads Thau

On behalf of the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, ISF (Institute for Social Research) and Fafo (Institute for Labour and Social Research) will investigate the Norwegian food distribution services. The project aims to conduct a nationwide mapping of these services in order to gain knowledge about their extent and how they are organized. Additionally, the project will gather information about the backgrounds and situations of those who utilize the food distribution services. The ambition is to understand the reasons why people require food assistance and how users experience such services in practice.

The project consists of three main components:

  1. A survey to all relevant voluntary organizations.
  2. A registration form for users of food distribution services to be filled out with assistance from the volunteers.
  3. A brief background questionnaire that users can fill out on their phones.
  4. A series of on-site visits in selected municipalities.
