The research project includes an evaluation of the living conditions among residents in reception centers for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers between 15 and 18 years. Living conditions are surveyed in the following areas: health, diet, care, conditions of the accommodation, access to social networking and activity offerings. The study will make an assessment of the care provided to the minors compared with international research on child care and on unaccompanied minors. Further we will identify the strengths and weaknesses of the care provided and the state of affairs of the reception centers. We will also discuss whether existing regulations are sufficient to guarantee their living conditions.
We have made use of the following methodological approaches: 1) Documents- and literature studies, 2) Survey that includes all current 12 reception centers, and 3) Fieldwork and interviews at one of two transit centers and five ordinary reception centers. The management, employers and residents have been interviewed, as well as representatives from the local health services, child protection service and education facilities. For the interviews with residents, we made use of the methods: Photo-Voice. 4) A Legal Guardian survey.
