There are many refugees in the world. Who among them should be resettled? The aim of this project is to compare selection criteria and practices in refugee resettlement in Norway, Australia, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands.
Based on in-depth interviews and document studies we explore different national approaches to refugee resettlement, focusing in particular on how states balance humanitarian objectives and integration-related concerns in the selection process. We also examine aspects related to foreign policy and border control, as well as the strategic use of refugee resettlement.
The study was commissioned by the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, and is conducted in collaboration with researchers from NORCE and PRIO.
