Gender balance in academia on the agenda

Researchers and academic leaders from all the Nordic countries were gathered to discuss how to improve the gender balance earlier this month – a discussion NORDICORE, was happy to be a part of.

NORDICORE's leader, Mari Teigen, introduced The Nordic Gender Equality Paradox in academia in her presentation at the summit.

NORDICORE-researcher Arnfinn H. Midtbøen (ISF) and Guðbjörg Linda Rafnsdóttir prorector (University of Iceland) also participated in discussions regarding Nordic solutions on how to promote gender balance in academia, as well as academic leaders’ role in achieving equality.

Do Diversity programs work?

Harvard Professor Frank Dobbin presented his research on how corporate diversity programs work and discussed the relevance of his findings for academic institutions.

– NORDICORE aims to map the implementation of different equality and diversity measures in Nordic academic institutions over time and this project is directly inspired by Dobbin's research. We're happy to have Dobbin as a part of NORDICORE's advisory board, and are already collaborating with him in the process of planning our data collection, says Liza Reisel, Deputy leader of NORDICORE and researcher at the Institute for Social Research.
