Here you can find central information for your visit at the Institute for Social Research.

Opening hours

The institute and switchboard: 9.00–15.00 on ordinary weekdays.

Location

Munthes gate 31, which is in a central location between Frogner and Majorstuen, close to Frogner Park.

There are tram, Oslo Metro (T-banen) and bus services to Munthes gate from the city centre.

Tram

Take service 12 to Vigeland Park.

Oslo Metro

Take services 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 to Majorstuen. 

Bus

The best option from Skøyen/Torshov/Galgeberg is bus service 20 to Vigeland Park.

Parking

Visitors who drive to the institute are asked to use on-street parking. There are two disabled parking spaces just outside the entrance (Munthes gate 31) to the institute.

Visitors with wheelchairs

Use the entrance in Fuglehauggaten 6 for stairfree access. You can access this entrance at the back of the building. Ring the "Reception" doorbell.

Canteen

The canteen is open from 11.30–13.00 Monday to Friday.

It has a salad bar and serves rolls, open sandwiches etc., cakes and one hot dish.

You can pay by bank card, unfortunately the canteen does not accept cash.

Wireless internet in Munthes gate

The institute has wireless internet delivered by the University of Oslo.

These are the wireless internet connections you can use as our guest:

  • uio – encrypted internet
  • uioguest – unencrypted
  • eduroam – also available at other educational institutions in Norway and the rest of the world.

Visitors with a user name from the University of Oslo can log on to these using their UiO user name and password.

Visitors without a user name from the University of Oslo are asked to contact reception to get guest access.
