Gender-segregated labour market

CORE studies the gender-segregated structures of the labour market – and what significance they have for men and women's status, income, working conditions and career options.

Despite the high labour market participation of both women and men in Norway, women and men work in different areas of the labour market. We conduct research on:

A changing gender-segregated labour market

Although Norway has a gender-segregated labour market, CORE’s research shows that this is changing. Women increasingly choose educations and professions that previously were dominated by men. Gender balance has been achieved in several traditionally male-dominated professions, some of which have become dominated by women. At CORE, we are concerned with studying developments, while also researching the processes and mechanisms that affect a changing gender-segregated labour market.

Wage disparity

A gender-segregated labour market also has an impact on the wage disparity between women and men, which is a topic CORE studies. At the same time, CORE is also concerned with increasing knowledge about the part of the wage disparity which is often referred to as ‘unexplained’, i.e. factors that cannot be explained by the gender-segregated labour market.
